Dexela

Dexela is a company founded in 2005 to undertake the commercialisation of Digital Breast Tomosynthesis for breast cancer screening. Dexela is developing a complete system which will give enhanced imaging and improve the time required for screening and interpretation. Dexela’s goal is to improve the sensitivity and specificity of breast cancer screening, detecting cancer earlier and reducing the need for additional imaging procedures and biopsies. The market for digital mammography is expected to exceed $1bn pa within the next few years and much or all of this will transition to tomosynthesis over the next five years.

The important factors in screening mammography are efficient workflow in acquisition, radiologist workflow, cost and image quality. Dexela has developed an IP-protected position in each of these areas. Its aim now is to provide a complete product combining best-in-class hardware and software that performs both 2D mammography as well as tomosynthesis, building a bridge between today’s clinical practice and tomorrow’s. The company employs over a dozen highly qualified people, mainly in London but also in the USA. It has an advisory team of people recognized as expert in this field, plus well-established contacts with recognised medical institutions on both sides of the Atlantic.
